WHAT IS JUICING?

Juicing is the process of extracting juice from plant tissues such as fruit or vegetables. Today, juicing is the given name to a new nutrition method, in which you consume mostly vegetable juices. Sometimes it’s called also green juicing, since it contains lots of green vegetables and have the colour of green. But in fact, this is not totally the correct way to name it, because if you look at the original content, juicing is actually very colourful.


Is Juicing Really Useful or a Temporary Trend?

In recent years, we saw the openings of Pilates, Zumba, Soul Cycle studios in almost every corner and rapidly all the gym added these new sports to their facilities. After this healthy activity trend now we see a trend in food sector. Alkaline waters and natural meals being added to the menus, organic shops are opened, juicing companies being established, raw food restaurants are opening.
Instead of calling these as temporary, trend etc., we may say that, it is the beginning of the change after awakening. We understood that healthy living is only possible with a healthy nutrition, a fit body, and a calm mind. It is a great leap from the trio of “Horse, woman, weapon” to “Mind, body, soul”. Now we want to know what we're eating. We do not want to eat processed foods. We do not want to take medication for new species of diseases, for suddenly existing allergies. We want to get rid of them radically. We want to take the control our body in our hands.
To claim that this is a temporary trend will be the denial of the awakening and this will mean that we did not understand anything. Because people cannot give up the wellness philosophy. Survival is an instinct to protect human health, it is a reflex. However, the current popularity of juicing is a little bit from is newness. When juicing will be a part of everyday life, then popularity will decrease, it will become a routine meal.

Drinking or Eating?

First of all, drinking has the following advantages compared to eating. Every day, you can drink comfortably a whole pineapple juice, but it can be a nightmare if you try to eat every day. Drinking juice daily, is certainly much easier than to eat it! When you eat fruits/vegetables, the indigestible fiber will reduce the absorption down to 17% and it takes about 3-5 hours. But when you drink it, the absorption is increased up to 68% and it takes only 10-15 minutes. (Source: book: I Juice for Life)
Juicing is actually like taking a dietary supplement. All foods begin to circulate in the body within 20 minutes. Juicing absorption rate is around 99%, while a person with the best digestive system does not reach half of that when eating. In addition, during juicing, you do not have the energy expended to digest dislike when you eat.
It is known that cooking the tomatoes is increasing the effect of its antioxidant lycopene 5 times, but putting tomatoes in a blender provides the same effect. Besides the vitamins, enzymes and minerals they contain, fruits and vegetables, also provide actually something else which is very important. Water is the source of life. As it is known, human can bare hunger but cannot bare thirst. 65% of the human body consists of water. This rate is even much higher than this in some organs. For example, this rate is 80% in the brain. Although the importance of water in our lives is so apparent, many of us still do not consume enough water. Quite the opposite, people are reducing their water amount in their bodies by consuming liquid foods such as tea, coffee, soda and cola instead of plain water.
Besides the water content, of course fruit and vegetable juices are very important because of their vitamins and minerals. Citrus fruits like grapefruit, oranges, lemons, are a natural source of vitamin C, where carrot juice provides us vitamin A in the form of beta carotene. Majority of green juices contains Vitamin E. Fruit and vegetable juices gives us iron, copper, potassium, sodium, iodine, magnesium and other essential minerals that we need and as a matter of fact those minerals obtained by juicing are much comfortably assimilated during digestion compared to eating.
Since juicing eliminates the indigestible fibers, the nutrition we get during juicing is higher than during eating. To give an example for it, when we eat a carrot, we only get 1% of its beta-carotene because of the indigestible fibers, while on the other hand, when we drink the raw carrot juice, we can take almost 100% of it.
Fresh fruit / vegetable juices are also a major source of the enzymes. Freshness of fruits and vegetables is very important here, because enzymes are destroyed by heat. When you cook food, all the enzymes are destroyed at temperatures above 114 degrees. When you are juicing all enzymes will be still live, since there will be not heat.

So everybody's just going to be juicing one day?

Of course not. It would be wrong to talk about a single nutrition method that is right for everyone at every time. Forget everybody, there is not a single correct nutrition method for even one single person. It varies according to the time and circumstances. However, it is useful that juicing will take its place in daily meals.
